Whichaway Camp

ANTARCTICA
WELCOME TO WHICHAWAY CAMP

This ultra-luxurious expedition camp deep in Antarctica’s Schirmacher Oasis is redefining adventure travel to the White Continent.

Simply getting to Whichaway is an adventure. Fly in by private jet, landing on a luminous blue ice strip deep in Antarctica’s interior; from here, it’s a short ski plane hop to camp, where a small, expert team of chefs and guides awaits. Founded by polar explorer Patrick Woodhead, the camp has six futuristic ‘polar pods’ engineered to withstand the planet’s harshest conditions, with interiors that nod to the golden age of exploration. Fireside cocktails, candlelit dinners, and a sauna with glacier views make for a refined counterpoint to the raw wilderness all around.

The greatest luxury here, though, is Antarctica itself. Cross frozen waves, scale ice cliffs, walk among enormous colonies of penguins. There are no crowds, no cruise ship itineraries – just bespoke, deeply personal adventures in the planet’s last great wilderness.

What we love about Whichaway Camp

  • The respect for the landscape, with the camp is run along strict guidelines, minimising impact on the environment whilst maximising comfort, style, and experience.
  • The exclusivity, with space for just 12 guests, and weather conditions such that the camp only open for two months of the year, it is truly is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
  • The cosy lounge and dining areas for enjoying excellent food from an award-winning chef and cocktails, made with 1,000-year-old ice cubes.
What to do at Whichaway Camp

Unlike most expeditions to Antarctica, which focus on cruising the Antarctic Peninsula, this expedition takes you deep into the heart of the continent to the South Pole itself.

The overarching ethos of Whichaway Camp is ‘experience as much as you wish or as little as you like’ and the team puts high value on making this your adventure to take at your pace. Excursions range from gentle hikes to mighty abseils with ice-picnics, rock climbing, and kite-skiing in between. In this remote spot, the only crowds you will see are the tens of thousands of Emperor Penguins in the Atka Bay.

WHICHAWAY CAMP

Accessible only by private charter flight from Cape Town (5 hours), you will fly in a Gulfstream G550 Jet to the polar circle.

When to travel

The extreme Antarctic weather means that the season is very short – and the camp is only open from the beginning of November to the end of December.
