Puesto Viejo is a charming estancia & polo club in the rural town of Cañuelas, where the expansive Argentine Pampas begin.
Located an hour outside of Buenos Aires, Puesto Viejo has extensive grounds, including woodland, polo pitches & a yew tree labyrinth maze.
What we love about Puesto Viejo
- There are 10 en-suite bedrooms all named after the owner’s favourite horses
- Interiors are traditional & understated, true to the heritage of the estancia
- Antiques are sourced from local markets & textiles are made by local artisans
- An open fire sits at the heart of the property & there’s a cosy library to relax in after a long day out in the fields
- Polo classes are led by bilingual polo professional Julito Casares.
- Dinner, often a traditional Argentine is served in the shade of the plain trees or under the stars. True to Estancia culture, guests usually dine together, sharing travel stories or perhaps discussing strategies for afternoons on the pitch.
A fully professional polo club, there are practice matches held four times a week & there are 12 tournaments throughout the year
Guests staying for several days are welcome to play alongside members of the club & professional players of 2-6 goals.
For the avid polo player keen to experience the game in Argentina, there are full board polo holidays for immersion into the game.
Polo holidays are suitable for all abilities & experiences, following assessment, a personalized program of lessons, tactics, matches & chukkas is developed for each rider. Discover how to play the game like an Argentine and ride alongside true professionals.
Those with a shorter time frame may visit Puesto Viejo for the day, partaking in two classes & watching polo club members play a match.
Hacks, known as cabalgatas are also organized. Beginners may ride a docile horse around the property & more experienced riders may go for a fast-paced canter outside of the Puesto Viejo’s grounds and into the Argentine pampas. There are moonlit rides followed by hearty barbecues under the stars.
Puesto Viejo makes for a great first or last stop in Argentina combining easily with Buenos Aires.
Direct flights from London to Buenos Aires take approximately 14 hours, while New York to Buenos Aires takes 11 hours.
There are also direct flights from Buenos Aires to many locations within Argentina, such as El Calafate, Iguazu, Mendoza
When to Travel
Buenos Aires & The Pampas Region can be visited year-round. We’d recommend visiting Puesto Viejo during the polo season (October to early December) for the opportunity to watch a polo game.
