A LUXURY VACATION TO NICARAGUA
The largest country in Central America, Nicaragua is much less explored, but no less staggering, than neighbouring Costa Rica.

WHAT TO SEE & DO IN NICARAGUA
A land of extraordinary natural beauty, it is home to six active volcanoes, the largest area of rainforest north of the Amazon and miles of coastline dotted with sandy beaches.
There are elegant colonial towns like Granada and Leon to explore, with pastel-painted churches and vibrant local festivals. The Nicas, as the locals are known, are innately proud, applying a vibrant palette of colour to houses, market stalls, restaurants and plazas.
Other highlights include Nicaragua’s breathtaking assortment of birdlife; the pristine beaches of San Juan del Sur; the cloud forests and ecolodges that dot the Pacific coast; the smoking crater of the Masaya volcano; and Lago Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America, home to an archipelago of some 300 islands.
December to April is our favourite time of year to visit.

HIGHLIGHTS OF NICARAGUAN CULTURE
Select a Sense
Nicaraguan cuisine is a fusion of indigenous and Spanish influences, featuring staples like corn, beans, and plantains. Gallo pinto, a hearty mix of rice and beans, is ubiquitous, while vigorón, a spicy cabbage salad served over boiled yuca and topped with chicharrón, showcases the country’s love for bold, comforting flavours.
Palo de Mayo is a vibrant Afro-Caribbean festival featuring rhythmic dance and music. Meanwhile, marimba, Nicaragua’s soulful soundtrack, accompanies traditional dances like the Gueguense, a satirical drama that combines music, dance, and theatre.
LISTEN INPick up hand-painted ceramics from San Juan de Oriente and vibrant hammocks woven in Masaya. Don’t miss the locally grown coffee, and the smooth, hand-rolled cigars from Estelí.
