A LUXURY VACATION TO CUBA

A unique blend of Latin American and Caribbean cultures, Cuba is a fascinating and complex country to visit.

From Havana’s faded colonial grandeur to Viñales’ tobacco fields and Trinidad’s cobbled streets, Cuba moves to its own rhythm.

Salsa spills onto the sidewalks, classic cars roll past Art Deco facades, and white-sand beaches give way to turquoise shallows.

Beyond the postcards, the island’s layered history and resilient spirit make it one of the most intriguing places to explore.

WHAT TO SEE & DO IN CUBA

As restrictions have been eased, stylish boutique hotels, cool bars and innovative restaurants have learnt to thrive here.

Havana, Cuba’s capital, is famous for vintage cars, colonial mansions and the sound of salsa drifting through the streets. Music is everywhere. To the west, Viñales and Pinar del Río, sit at the heart of Cuba’s tobacco region, a land of fertile plantations, orchid gardens and waterfalls.

To the east, surrounded by plump green hills, colonial Trinidad is all pastel-hued facades and cobbled streets, with spectacular beaches to the south and west.

Cuba’s second city, Santiago, is the cultural capital, its identity rooted in Afro-Caribbean and revolutionary influences. Salsa and Son were born on the streets of Santiago, and Bacardi set up his first rum factory here.

A luxury holiday to Cuba should unquestionably include four to five nights in Havana. Those drawn to more authentic experiences, who don’t mind sacrificing some home comforts, should combine with the east of the island. For those on a shorter timescale, we would recommend focusing on western Cuba. Whichever direction you take, we will ensure it is a highly memorable adventure.

HIGHLIGHTS OF CUBAN CULTURE

Select a Sense

Cuban cuisine is shaped by Spanish, African, and Caribbean traditions. Ropa vieja, a slow-cooked shredded beef stew, and arroz con pollo are staples, while fresh seafood is a highlight along the coast. In Havana, privately run paladares have transformed the food scene, offering everything from homestyle classics to inventive takes on local dishes. These informal restaurants are often the best place to find perfectly grilled lobster, rich black bean stews, and a strong Cuban espresso to finish.

Cubans live for music. Salsa and son and are twin engines of society. Afro-Cuban jazz, rumba, and mambo also play big roles. The 20th century saw legends like Benny Moré and Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa on the Cuban scene. Omara Portuondo is a more contemporary name to look out for. • What is the best time of year to visit Cuba?

The dry season (November to April) offers warm days, little rainfall, and comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring cities, beaches, and countryside. The wet season (May to October) brings higher humidity, afternoon showers, and the possibility of hurricanes, but also fewer crowds and lush landscapes.

  • How many days should I allow to explore Cuba?

At least 10–14 days to experience both cities and countryside, from Havana to Viñales and Trinidad. A week is enough for a focused trip exploring Havana and nearby beaches, while three weeks allows for deeper travel into the east, including Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa.

  • What are Cuba’s highlights?

Havana’s colonial streets, classic cars, and lively music scene. Viñales, where tobacco farms and limestone mogotes define the landscape. The cobbled charm of Trinidad, a UNESCO-listed town frozen in time. The white-sand beaches of Cayo Santa María and Varadero. Santiago de Cuba’s Afro-Caribbean culture and rich revolutionary history.

  • Which other countries pair well with Cuba?

Mexico is the easiest extension, with direct flights to Cancún and Mexico City. The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic offer a seamless Caribbean escape. Panama and Colombia are also well-connected, making for an ideal mix of culture and coastline.
