A LUXURY VACATION TO THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON
Covering more than 4 million square kilometres, the Brazilian Amazon contains over half of the planet’s remaining rainforests, and one-tenth of all known plant and animal species.
Most journeys into the Brazilian Amazon begin in the gateway of Manaus. It is here that the Rio Negro from the north and the Solimões from the west meet to form the mighty Amazon, by volume the largest river in the world, responsible for one-fifth of the Earth’s total river flow.
A luxury expedition into the Amazon with Plan South America might see you sailing along the Rio Negro, hiking deep into the forest with an expert naturalist or sitting down to supper with local indigenous communities. Through our local connections and deep expertise, we can open up its remotest corners.

WHAT TO SEE & DO IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON
The Amazon is a world of rivers – and travelling them is the surest way to understand its scale.
Our favourite way to experience it is by privately-chartered boat, complete with captain, chef and specialist guide. Imagine dropping anchor by one of the gorgeous sandy beaches along the Tapajos River, kayaking with pink river dolphins or visiting local Indigenous communities before settling down to a lunch of fresh grilled piranha with lime.
For those who prefer to remain on dry land, we have a handful of fabulous eco lodges deep in the rainforest where you can sleep in comfort. And in Manaus itself, the frenetic river port is home to one of the world’s most exotic fish markets, and most eccentrically-sited opera house, the Teatro Amazonas.
ELSEWHERE IN BRAZIL
Brazil awaits with the pulse of its cities, the serene beauty of towering waterfalls, and the surreal landscapes of its northeastern sand dunes.
