A Luxury Vacation to Iguazú

In Argentina’s northeast, El Litoral is a tangle of river networks and home to the mighty Iguazú Falls.

From the air, Argentina’s northeast appears as a mass of knotted rivers, grassy plains, wetlands and sub-tropical rainforest. Known locally as El Litoral, it is home to abundant yerba mate plantations (the herb used in the country’s much-beloved hot drink), a staggering variety of fauna and flora and, of course, the mighty Iguazú Falls, which straddle the borders of three countries: Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.

TRAVELLING DEEPER: WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN IGUAZÚ

The thundering cascades and lush subtropical rainforest converge to create an unforgettable spectacle.

Upon seeing Iguazú Falls for the first time, Eleanor Roosevelt remarked, “Poor Niagara”.

Moving south from Iguazu and along the Paraná River, the Esteros del Iberá are the second largest wetlands on the planet, after Brazil’s mega-diverse Pantanal.

Paddle lagoons populated by caiman, capybara, anteaters, and otters, and ride through the wetlands amidst a carnival of birdlife before returning to the lodge for cocktails around the swimming pool.

For a change of pace, there are polo lessons, dorado fishing, and shady hammocks for afternoon lazing.
