WELCOME TO MELIMOYU

Situated between La Junta and the village of Raúl Marín Balmaceda in southern Chile, Melimoyu issurrounded by vast native forests and clear rivers – the perfect destination for fly-fishing.

Named after the neighboring volcano, Melimoyu Lodge sits in the deep heart of the northern Chilean Patagonia. Surrounded by pristine Valdivian temperate rainforests and a vast network of crystalline rivers, hanging glaciers, and lakes, at Melimoyu the natural spectacle that visitors will have a chance to enjoy is unlike anywhere else int he world.

Owner Segundo Gomez originally built the luxurious four-bedroom domicile as a vacation home, but after a few years, decided to turn it into a fishing lodge. To reach these beautiful, natural landscapes, it is best to be accompanied by guides who are experts on the region. Let us take you there.

What we love about Melimoyu

  • Personalized service, with genuinely kind and attentive staff and adventure guides.
  • Dinners are multi-course affairs served at a communal table, fostering a sense of community among guests.
  • The lodge also features a riverside quincho (barbecue pavilion) for traditional Patagonian asados (barbecues).
  • Absolute privacy and exclusivity.
  • The lodge hosts a maximum of eight guests at any given time — that means the staff are able to cater to visitors’ nearly every need.
  • The incredibly open and welcoming lounge with massive windows showcase the surrounding natural beauty all day long.
  • The Rio Melimoyu runs through the heart of the property, passing by two wood-fired hot tubs where you can relax after a long day of adventuring.
What to do at Melimoyu

Melimoyu Lodge is renowned for its fly fishing, particularly for salmon and various types of trout.

In addition to fishing, the lodge offers a variety of excursions and outdoor activities, including kayaking, hiking, buggy rides, and bicycle routes. Excursions to Queulat National Park and the Piti Palena Fjord are among the highlights.

The lodge’s on-staff fishing guides are true experts, passionate about their craft. They lead guests to neighboring rivers and streams by ATV’s, or to secluded lakes and lagoons by helicopter. At the end of the day, the riverside hot-tub is an ideal location for cocktails.

MELIMOYU

The lodge is located in the heart of Torres del Paine, a national park in Chilean Patagonia and the southern tiers of the Andes.

To reach Explora Torres Del Paine, you can fly into Santiago, Chile, and then take a connecting flight to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales. From there, Explore can provide private transfers that take you through the Patagonian landscape to the lodge. The journey from Punta Arenas takes about five hours by car, while from Puerto Natales, it takes around two hours.

When to Travel

Melimoyu is a year-round destination, however, January is often the warmest month, with average temperatures of 62°F (17°C).  For those hoping to avoid the rain, the driest month tends to be February.

During the summer, the coasts of Melimoyu are estimated to be home to 10% of the world’s population of cetaceans. In other words, marine beasts such as blue whales, orcas and humpbacks feed along the shores of this unique national park.
